Time for a moan
Been working out what makes the L405 not quite right in my eyes, and what makes it good.
The good thing is that what I consider to be the main problems are easily rectified.

Ok, issues:

1. The gills, in direct contrast to James Watkin's claim that "there are no fussy, contrived, superficial styling elements" (see design video on youtube).
2. The flank pieces of trim, which are undoubtedly expensive to manufacture in, and do nothing for the car.
3. The bluff front end, if you look at the lr homepage image vs the classic, the L405 loses the traditional departure angle, resulting in a big chin on the car and diminished off-road capabilities.
4. The head and tail light flicks, which had they been more blended in would have improved the design, and avoided associations with the Ford Explorer.
5. The roof spoiler.
6. The lower grille arrangements, looks clumsy and incoherent, with the grilles above each fog-light and big, bland lower trim.
7. The size of the door mirrors, large is fine but these are chunky for the sake of it.
8. The absurdly flared wheelarches, which give the car its bloated appearance.
9. The smooth-edged wheel designs, which add to the impression of tubbiness.
10. The contrast roof, leave it for Mini!
11. LED signature lighting shape, makes seem like next gen Q7.
12. The way in which the rearmost side glass panels have been sealed with a thicker lining, which makes loses the vital RR glasshouse look, in spite of the new panoramic sunroof. Also undoubtedly creates parking annoyances.
13. Headlight-bumper panel gap, looks incoherent/sloppy
14. Removal of circular Land-Rover badge on steering wheel, made cabin look more balanced on L322.
15. Lack of more "country" colours
16. Lack of wood trim choice: themes seem to be 80s merc, footballer's kitchen or smeary, shiny walnut.
17. Boot space: diminished. A car of this type should be able to carry two school trunks without problem!
18. The economy and performance changes are slight, considering the ground-up redesign. It would seem that LR spent too much time comparing the car to Bentley, and forgot the SUV competitors. It is embarrassing that the outgoing base model BMW X5 is half as expensive, faster and more economical than a TDV6. Whilst the X5 will never be a RR, LR have to at least make a decent effort to compete. The hybrid should help this.

Meanwhile, I like:
1. Sound System improvements.
2. RSE improvements
3. Panoramic roof.
4. Load-through seats
5. Increase in perceived interior build quality.
6. Addition of the TDV6 engine.
7. Wading capability
8. Terrain Response II
9. Uncluttered Facia.
10. Soft-Close doors
11. Electric Tailgate.
12. Electric Towbar
13. New Cruise control features.
14. The air vents in the roof in the rear passenger compartment.
15. The mood lighting.
16. The fact that it is nominally a Range Rover.

What do you guys love/loathe about it?

haha you may be right... just been bugging me and had too much time on my hands today

Well, I'm probably the last guy here that hasn't seen one in flesh ....at least until tomorrow evening where I'm invited to the presentation of it by my dealer. So far my Rangie's were all black but this one.....hmm really think that I'm going to like the brighter colours.
Guess I will know tomorrow then...

Interesting to see if her maj swaps her supercharged actually, she didn't swap to the new XJ when that came our, so we'll see if she does with this...

Undoubtedly attuned to new-money markets and customers. A real shame, but businesses have to follow the money (until their products no longer stand for what made them desirable in the first place and the money moves on).

The L322 is a car that everyone recognised as a RANGE ROVER.

The new L405 could be a number of car manufacturers top of the range car.

yep same, they had already hit gold with the L322 and begun to dig in another direction?
You wonder that if the L322 wasn't broke... why did they fix it?!
Reckon L322 could have gone on at least another 5 years...

but as a business you can't blame them. They must have had huge, huge success sales with the Evoque, so they were bound to go evoquee styling on the bigger vehicles to guarantee all those chinese & russian sales.

Yeah I appreciate that... trouble is though they are selling their birthright in a sense, CSK is probably turning in his grave as we speak IMO.

The L322 was getting old, even if it still looked good - not just overweight, but lacking things like keyless entry, soft-close doors, glass roof etc. which people expect.

yeah, but to adapt is invariably cheaper than a clean sheet design...
