I tested a Volvo XC90 T8 today. Nice car, stylish, quiet drive when driving electric. But: the "4x4" system of the XC90 T8 is definitely not good: had difficulties coming up a very steep gravel driveway at our summer house. Reason: Only the el motor drives the rear wheels, and when the hi-voltage battery is almost flat, you only have petrol engine power on the front wheels. The R4 engine delivers 320 hp (T8 system effect 404 hp) and the acceleration is very good. The R4 engine has a bit "raw" / rough sound - hope that the P400e is quieter than that.

Think that’s one of the benefits of the RR system with the electric motor as part of the transmission. On the other hand, the batteries don’t compromise the interior space etc. on the Volvo.

Totally agree! I think that the next ffrr (2023?) will be designed with battery storage in mind, avoiding raising the boot floor with 5 cm!

The 3.0 diesel however, produces considerably more (33% more to be precise) at 600Nm.

Taking this into account, what's your thoughts?

Wouldn’t the low speed torque of the electric motor compensate for the lack of petrol torque?

first shows 2.0 (jag version) vs other small options. not far off the scv6 but way down on the diesel torque. so without electric it may just be a plodder.

the second I have crudely plotted the phev in full hybrid mode

looks like it could be fun..

still would be nice to know does it keep a stash like the old hybrid so you were never really without when you put your foot down? brochure says"ensures p400e ALWAYS has sufficient charge to provide 404ps power output...when required" it is better to have and not need then need and not have
