tie wraps can be used to hold the timing in place on some chain engines , just saying |

Not with the vanos set up, it is far, far more complicated than a conventional set up, it's just about impossible to do it without the correct tools...

You can shock the fan off with a large spanner and a hammer - did it on my 535 which is the same engine basically...

You can do that on the M62 engine as long as you never want to drive it again I had a used set of locking tools and even with those it was a bit scary as they were a little baggy |

I made the fan pulley holding tool from a diagram posted on here. My welding is pretty dodgy but it held up.
