I used to get this on my old Jeep - there was one particular course that seemed to have very gritty mud - I hate to think what other damaging effects it was having....

When I had a slow puncture on mine it was due to some corrosion inside the wheel rim where the tyre bead contacts the rim. The tyre fitter cleaned it up with a flap-wheel and it's been good ever since. 2006MY 4.2 SC

I'm surprised you are getting mud between rim and tyre. The only time that has happened to me was in my first Classic when I skidded on ice and hit the back wheel against an earth bank which pushed the tyre off the bead and left earth between them. You'd know if that were happening and the puncture would not be that slow...

Even with good beads, the forces when you're in ruts can be enough to let some grit get forced in there - so the extra bead seal will help.

Cheers Alistair, just had another search and looks like 285/55/20 fills up the arch I was thinking 255/55/20 as a replacement which should fit comfortably
