4.2 S/C Replacement Battery

Hello All,

Looking at replacing the current battery in the family beast.
What is the biggest (CCA/AH) battery i can fit in. In my previous P38 I think i fitted a 1000cca Alphaline one. I could be wrong but just thought i would ask.

Hi,
The AA man fitted a Yuasa YBX5019 (100 Ah / 900A) for me last year.
Even with the bonnet in service position he struggled to install it (cutting his hand in the process).

you dont need a large amp battery for the 4.2 unlike the diesel 3.6 which does..

Cheers Stan. Just would rather have a big ass battery with reserve rather than 'enough' for the job. We know how all the electrics in these really dont like low volts.

Thanks for all the specs etc. I will have a look at options.

I went for the varta 020 - it didn't last the journey , but I do lots of small runs

now on an AGM 019 -n think this will withstand more stops/starts - plus its a bit easier to fit

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black

Hi All,

I fitted the Varta Silver Dynamic 020 to my S/C over 2 years ago and all good! Thumbs Up

I do short-ish trips, don't use her long periods etc. etc and do most things that poor batteries can't cope with (apart from sitting with all the sound system playing with no engine running) and I have not (yet) had a problem.

From memory it has a 5 year warranty and whilst I'm sure Stan is correct with his table of suggested batteries I also always fit the biggest CCA/Ah that I can, from a quality manufacturer that I can afford.

My Varta 020 (Silver Dynamic 610 402 092) is 110Ah with 920 CCA however they now appear to do a "Stop Start" version (Silver Dynamic AGM 605 901 095) that is 105Ah but with 950 CCA and advertised as 3x the life cycle!??!
No idea of cost though

Cheers,

A couple of months ago I went for the Yuasa black lifetime guarantee one from Halfords and it has been flawless. I also put one in my other car, had a problem with it and they changed it with no problems. Highly recommend it and you can definitely tell the difference with the more powerful one. Current:
