Restricted Performance

Just had this warning message come on the dash whilst poodling along on the M25 around 70 mph, followed by no power. Also heard a brief strange whooshing noise from the drivers side of the engine.
Limped home, checked under the bonnet, nothing obvious, although pressing the start button didnt stop the car for about 5 seconds.
Set alarm, unset, got in, started up, same message displayed, able to rev higher this time, but terrible whooshing sort of noise from the offside engine constantly and also with the bonnet open the front vent in the top of the wing by the washer bottle seemed to be sucking in air like a hoover!
Anybody got any ideas please??

Thanks
Neil

Sounds like the turbo hose has come off. Same happened to me on a RRS after it had been in for a recall which involved replacing the hose. The garage hadn't tightened up the hose sufficiently so it was pushed off under acceleration hence the whooshing sound and restricted performance.

The 4 short rubber hoses have been modified since 2013 because the originals are prone to splitting.

The replacement hoses are much tougher.

Problem solved thankfully, it was the turbo boost pipe that had come off or blown off.
Phew...

This is why I love these specialist forums, the simple answer is out there and an expensive trip to dealer has been averted!

I'd not have had a clue where to start if it'd been my car!

Yes it seems to have, why, do you think that was a recall?
The one that came off was low down between the offside inner wing. Those 4 hoses are on the top of the engine.
Hope this helps.
