Looks too far forward - may be the right weight distribution, but looks awkward IMHO - would expect the box to start slightly behind the top of the windscreen ......

As CTC pointed out, it needs to clear the spoiler with the rear door open but, worse than that, the rails are so badly designed that the cross bars can only fit in one place (thus negating one of the single biggest advantages of having roof rails!). If you look closely, despite the fact that the box could still go back another 3 inches and still not fowl the tailgate, you’ll see that the box is pushed back as far as it will go on the bars - it’s right at the very limit of its adjustment. While the roof rail designer ought to be sacked, it does at least mean that the front overhang (which isn’t as bad in reality) is well supported and is held very steady in the breeze! |

I personally wouldn’t go with the LR Cross Bars - you are stuck using their very limited positioning on the roof rails. I went for the Thule system - far far better and you can position them anywhere on the rails. They are far more flexible, and appear to mount slightly lower.

Since when have Thule made cross bars to fit the L405? There were none available last September and Thule themselves said they had no plans to make any |

Unfortunately there are no photos. The supplying dealer had fitted the bars (not what I wanted to happen) before I collected the car new. In the process they had made about 6 or 7 deep holes into the plastic. They had to remove the bars and fill and repaint them. When I fitted them again I found the clamps sufficiently crude that I put several layers of PVC tape over the surface of the rails. When I removed the tape, some of the paint came away with the tape. At the very bottom of the clamps, where there was no tape, the clamps took the paint off where they made direct contact. The dealer has had to paint them a second time. I’m unlikely to use them again but, if I did, I might try a thin layer of felt between the bars and the rails. When |
