Non LR servicing within first 3 years?

Wondering what people's thoughts are on having an L405 serviced and maintained at a non franchised, non RR specialist during the first 3 years from new?

Thumbs Up

Depends how long you plan on keeping it for......

I think its more important through any warranty period (new or used) to avoid any argument.

I did my first service with a franchised dealer as I was thinking of moving abroad & would need to sell the car, but since then it's been Indy all the way - but I'm not a serial changer and will probably keep it until it's over 8 years old & >120k miles and by that time a MD history doesn't really affect the value IMHO

When servicing any LR's under 3 years old, I use genuine filters.

Not strictly necessary, but much easier to argue the case if there is a warranty issue in the future Thumbs Up

That said, I have worked inside an LR main dealer, and a full MD service history means Censored all

You mention it being not only a non dealer, but a non specialist too Shocked I've run complex cars many times before and the one thing that I would never do is let a non specialist near one.

These are not cars that you want a general mechanic to learn and experiment on! Down that route a whole world of pain lies, especially if you want warranty claims to be honoured!! However, I'd feel happier if it's a good, well known and trusted specialist, than I would with most main dealers.

There are examples of main dealers selling approved used L405's with the 2 year LR warranty where said RR does not have either a franchised or RR 'specialist' service history.

And one that was offered to me, as an Approved 16 plate car, with 17,600 on the clock on no service done yet. I turned it down.

I'd want to be absolutely in the right if I ever need to argue the toss with LR over a warranty claim. I can't imagine that "you do it" would hold much water as a defence.

More importantly, an inexperienced general mechanic is more likely to cock it up in the first place.

Have a look at how many 2.7's (D3/RRS) have died with something as simple as fitting the oil filter incorrectly...

Another question is what affect if any it might have on the corrosion warranty...
