11 Reg No. but 61 plate???

Hi,

Our L322 was reg'd in November 2011 but instead of having a 61 plate it has an 11 plate... how can that be?

Thanks

I always though it was

1st Aug - end Feb 10,11,12,13 etc
1st March - 31st july 60,61,62,63 et

The changeover doesn't coincide with the year, hey split the old Reg year in half, new reg plate system just split the existing registration year in half which ran for some unfathomable reason from august....

Edit.... half asleep and wrong..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

August was the old system. Changeover dates are now 1st March and 1st September Thumbs Up

1st March is the year number (e.g. 17) and 1st September add 50 (e.g. 67) 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I knew it was 1st March and 1st September:

1st March to 31 Aug = 11

1st Sept to 28 Feb = 61

I wondered if it was a cherished number but unless the previous keeper was a Managing Director I can't see what it might mean

^^
Yes, it does seem a bit strange as that's just a normal plate. If it was a cherished one you'd think they would have kept it before selling the car on. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Would the car not revert to its original plate anyway when you took yours off, if that was a cherished plate it wouldn't necessarily go back on and the car would go back to its given Reg.

Could see possibilities for having a later plate if an ex military car being registered in the U.K. Or something similar but an earlier plate on a newer car is slightly puzzling. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Its possible that the car was registered as new on a personal plate and so never had an age plate allocated and then when that was taken off a mistake was made at the DVLA and the wrong age plate issued. Not sure how that would get sorted.

Its not the usual process, normally the dealer would have a age related registration allocated and then transfer the plate but it can be done that way.

There may be a note on the bottom of the V5 saying something like 'this plate is non- transferrable'' which is often a clue that the car has had a plate change in its history and its now back on its original plates - e.g. if an original number has been changed for a personal plate and then the p-plate transferred back off and the original number back on the car, the original number can't then be used as a p-plate in the future

Also some of the vehicle HPI checks detail numberplate history - anything odd there?

I would suggest ringing the DVLA vehicle enquiry line - they can be quite helpful depending on who you get! Current Fleet:-

It must have a cherished plate on, it's amazing how many people just let them go when they sell the car. There is a registration very close to my initial and surname which I'd always kept an eye on, I tapped it into google recently and it had been sold on a very ratty punto for £500 via gumtree a year ago!

Tap the reg into https://cazana.com/uk that will give you the original plate (if there was one). 2006 4.2 SC

It's a strange choice of it is a cherished plate, can see the MD bit but XUV.... doesn't strike me as a cherished number, that link Skot put up is very interesting. Mine has had 3 different plates but started on it's given plate of YD12 There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

That was the plate on the car when we bought it from Lloyd LR just over two years ago. So is the consensus that it must be a cherished plate even if it means not a lot to anyone other than whomever had it originally?

Ps.. It will be the plate on the car if and when anyone ever buys it!

Thumbs Up

I don't think that the registration rules allow a newer plate on an older car, ie that could appear to show the car as being newer than it is. First time FFRR owner
