My old man's TDV8 has started doing a couple of things which I suspect are related

1 - Sometimes when pressing the start button it fails to start (does not turn over), it sounds like a relay making a clunk and then you have to try again. Other times it starts fine. When it does this the forward alert not active warning comes up

2 - Twice recently when going over bumps in the road all manner of warnings have popped up on the dash - forward alert not active, HDC not active, Airbags not active

All of this sounds voltage related to me and I think points to a loose connection somewhere as the above warnings are on totally different circuits.

I have checked the connections at the battery and these seem good. Are there any others I should be checking in the big fuse board in the boot?

#1 is what mine did when the battery was failing and unable to hold proper charge. If the battery is original then maybe time for a new one.

I've had the starter just give a click now and again, but start no problem most of the time.

I suspect the starter since it sounds like it''s not fully engaging to turn the engine over.

Before I bought a replacement, I gave one of the engine relays a squirt of contact cleaner and she's started every time since.

It may well be a coincidence though.

I have just put a multimeter on the battery. 12.09v before it was started (it did a 100 mile run yesterday), 14.45v when running and then back down to 12.18v very quickly after stopping it again.

Battery definitely suspect! Am I correct in saying these have a special type of battery fitted?

I very recently fitted a Varta G14 Start/stop AGM. It gets back to a float charge very quickly which is great for short runs.

Looking at the battery fitted to it now it is a Land Rover part but is actually a Varta G14

I will replace it like for like

Next question....having read the Wiki you need to reset the Battery Monitoring after the battery is changed. I don't have the diagnostics to do this at home so will the car still start ok if I change it at home and then drive it to the garage to reset it?

it appears that bms has to be reset Sam,

I don't know specifically on Land Rovers but on other cars I have looked at then the car would start without the BMS reset but they didn't recommend leaving it too long till resetting it as you could damage your new battery.

I guess depending one where you are getting the BMS reset just pop the battery in the boot and change it yourself when you get to the garage.
