Which tow bar/roof bars?

Hi,
I have a 2010 tdv8 vogue se, can anyone recommend a manufacture of a tow bar to fit, I have had a sport with the removable tow bar, is there one available for a vogue ?
Also can anyone give advise of which roof bars to fit, it cost a small fortune for the sports roof bars to get fitted, I wondered if it was the same for the ?

Thanks for your help

Nathan

Personally if I had a 1 yr old RR I'd be sticking with the genuine LR accessories. Not necessarily brand new.

There is a section in your handbook about non genuine accessories and your warranty! For example if you plugged in non genuine tow-bar electrics and then 6 months later your Sat Nav died LR would no doubt not pay out on warranty because you've modified the vehicles electrical system with non genuine parts.

You know how slippery they can be...

In theory they provide you with a compatible "interface" to plug in your Non-LR Caravan.

Hmmm - Land Rover caravan - that's guna gas you in your sleep!

Do you have rails on the roof yet?
Mine didn't come with rails and I was unable to source them via LR, (was told they are not sold anymore??)so had a set of rails fitted by frontrunner, which I guess will be supplied by frogs island etc up your way. Naturally this will not fit any of the standard accessories Smile but I modded a set of roofbars to fit it anyway, and had a rack made to fit cos the standard rack won't do what I need

The only Towbar option I know about is the westfalia one. Once you have the main part with the hitch receiver you can either use the removable hitch or the solid 'drop plate' type. I had a drop plate made to fit buy yes that will probably lead to warranty issues if the ass falls off while towing.

Hi,
Thanks for all your advice,
I really want a removable tow bar as we only use it for towing a rib and then a jet ski back from Poole to bristosl then back to Poole once a year for the winter , so don't really need on all of the time plus you get the nod from caravaners Smile
The roof rails sound similar that we bought for our sport, they were very neet but like I said bloody expensive to get and fit!
I have the land rover roof bars for the roof box but can't find anything simular for the rr, again do not want anything to cumbersome if has to stay on as only use them once year for winter holiday .
Thanks

Nathan

( by the way as a neewbie to the forum I am very grateful and impressed by your help, advice and the way the web site is run)

There are 2 different types of tow bar shown in my manual. Both are removable. Having said that, the one fitted to my FF will not remove as it seems to have seized into the bracket. Laughing No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

+1 for PF Jones Thumbs Up

My 2010MY TDV8 Vogue SE has the Westfalia armature bar and detachable tow bar kit recently fitted by me, as supplied by PF Jones for the sum of £360 plus the GENUINE LR twin electrics from Nick (TLO) @ Yeovil LR for the sum of £90 giving a total supply price of around £450

DIY install should take no more than a couple of hours but I would allow 3 to be safe and although not essential an air gun is very useful to undo the four bolts that secure the existing bumper brackets Wink

The dealer quoted me £1200 to supply and fit Shocked but I have exactly the same kit at a tidy saving of £750 Thumbs Up The storage box for the detachable bar even has the LR logo on it!

Here's the completed job!

Mike you are correct there are 2 versions. Swan neck where you leave a large receiver bolted into the armature, or the fixed plate version, like the1 I am selling Whistle that is completely removed.

Nathan

Never had an issue when fitting the thule bars on my FF

Hi
Ajay, thanks for that - that's looks like the one I'm after!, very neat installation, I think I will try to go the same route as you and fit myself with the electrics by someone who's not a baffoon with a crimper and a pair of plyers Smile

Nbunny, I have the Thule roof box, and both the Thule bars and the rr sport bars, but can't see how they would fit, do you have a roof rails fitted ?

Thanks again for all your advice

Nathan

Nathan,

No need for that even a baffoon could wire up the electrics on a 2010MY Laughing

In the boot between the spare wheel and rear bumper, slightly closer to the near side is a grey plug socket - you just remove the square rubber grommet from the underside of the boot floor and feed the new electrics loom, which already has a new grommet fitted, through the hole and plug into the grey socket Thumbs Up

See below:

The total length of the new LR electrics loom is no more than a foot long - even a baffoon can plug it in Wink

I have towed our horse trailer a number of times over the past month and all lights etc. work fine including the green trailer light flashing on the dash when indicating.

You will need to take it to a dealer though to code the car for trailer electrics which may or may not cost you 50 quid but the main reason for this is to automatically turn off the rear parking sensors when hitched up and reversing! At the moment I just turn them off manualy until I get it coded Very Happy

Andy.
