Vibration at 55mph

I wonder if anyone can help.

I have noticeable vibration through the car at almost exactly 55mph, speed up to 57, or reduce to 53 and the vibration stops. The only other thing I would add is above 55 I would say the steering feels quite light, like there is too much power assist.

Ive read about prop shafts causing vibration, so maybe that is the issue, but its very specific to the speed, everyone in the car knows when we are cruising at 55!

Its on an 06 TD6 RR, I had a 02 4.4 before and never noticed the light steering on that (just electrical issues!) or the vibration.

If anyone has any recommendations for a garage in the Manchester area that they use for their RR they would be very welcome as Im not that happy with my current garage, I'm not sure they see that many RRs and their suggestion at the moment is to change the tyres which I guess might help, but again I'm not that sure (which is why I'm asking here!!!)

Have you lost any balanching weights off your wheels? Recently had new tyres fitted? Put your spare wheel on the front?
Maybe try wheel balancing and tracking first as the cheaper options? These can cause vibration at certain speeds..

^^^^i agree with the posts above, i kept losing weights off my 19" wheels.

Get them to re balance with stick on weights, less likely to come adrift. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Maybe the torque converter.

Does it sound like your travelling over a cattle grid?

Mine started doing this yesterday and when I had checked the weights, one had been lost. My car does however also suffer from the railway track vibe and pre 5omph engine hunting.

No noise as such on mine, just vibration which could even be described as shaking more than a buzz.

Away at the moment so I can't get the wheels rebalanced until next week, but I'm going to give that a shot as there are visible weights on three wheels, but none on the rear offside so it's probably the culprit.

Is it gear hunting at around 30-35mph? The reason i ask is that mine had the cattle grid vibration at 55mph with gear hunting and it turned out to be my torque converter.

Hopefully this is not your issue.

If its vibration through your seat you can feel then its the rear balancing. if shaking through the steering wheel then its fronts...

If its not wheel weights, 55mph is when the servotronic power steering changes steering assistance, and it is not unheard of for the valve in the steering to be a bit iffy and cause light steering and a vibration through the steering wheel.....

Bad vibration:
Torque converter
Injectors

Low to medium vibration:
Wheels
Brake disks

Tried the G-box flush etc but though better, is still annoying. Car has only 63k on it so a bit disappointed really. Just read through your suggested thread mrd and will be getting the T/C done asap. Anyone recommend where I can get one done in the Salisbury/Southampton area?

Just has a quote for replacing the T/C of £675 inclusive from eBay 'gearbox-man' (Barnsley). Seems reasonable but a bit North for me.

Although it's highly possible, don't bank on it being the TC

You could save money by having land rover diagnose the problem then get an independent landy garage to fix it Thumbs Up
