td6 ecu failure??

Hello all,

Here is a strange question for you all...

Td6 drives perfectly, but twice today she went in to "transmission fail safe" mode.
She continued to drive exactly as before!!

I plugged in kid, and errors were not actually to do with the transmission. They were strange errors about ECU bus error (or something).
Before I bought the car, I know the owner fried the ECU by putting 24V on the battery. Do you think that the engine ECU could still have a fault?

If I were to buy a new ECU, would it be a "plug and play" replacement, or are there any settings that need changing or programming?

Thanks!!

Nick
