It is not normal to get a burning smell on reversing.

I would check the temperature of the rear park brake drums because it sounds as though the epb shoes might be binding whilst reversing. |

Thanks guys - I thought it might have been the brakes but the wheels aren't at high temperature, even after a reasonably quick run down the motorway.
