Somewhere I found that if when doing an oil change and the oil filter housing remains full of oil there is a simple cause and fix to this. Anyone know this problem and fix? |

There’s an anti-drain back valve fitted at the bottom of the oil filter housing that ensures it, and its pipework, doesn’t need filling each time the engine is started (delaying the oil flow to the engine).

Thanks Phil. Yes I know there is a check valve that is supposed to open when you open the housing. Once I get the filter cartridge up about half way it drains slowly. It used to drain just by getting the cap off. I change the filter every 3k miles. Last 2 times it held oil and ran over the housing sides. So not sure if the filter isn't coming up when unscrewing the cap allowing the valve to open or the valve is stuck/clogged. I do know the filter is a rather snug fit. I'm due to change it again and want to be prepared. First time I thought it was just a one time event.

Resolved. Seems that the oil filters were just not staying locked on the housing cap when removing. This last one stayed on the cap and it had drained fine. |
