Automatic Parking Aid

Below is an extract from the manual. I cannot seem to work out what difference the "on" or "off" setting makes in the touchscreen menu - I still get the parking aid coming on all the time. It works when I expect it to (typically reversing into a parking space) and also when I don't (eg in a queue of traffic it will suddenly come on if too close to the car in front or behind).

Anyone worked out how this actually works?

To enable or disable the automatic parking aid option, on the touch screen select, Extra features, then select Auto Parking Aid. The Auto Parking Aid will display an on or off option. Select the required option. The system will retain the selected option across all ignition cycles. 2016 SDV8 AB

I think you should disable the "Park Assist" and not the "Auto Parking". 2016 RR ATB (Kaikoura Stone w/Brogue/Ivory-Brogue)

Does the front sensors detect cars all the time in a line of traffic , or does your car do this just after you have pulled out of a parking bay and have put the car in reverse to get out.
As the sensors stay on for a bit front and back I think it might be up to a certain speed.
This is feature so that when you are parking and manuvering in your parking bay you you dont run into the car in front once you have reversed in.
I hope that made sense.

Not sure if connected, but i'm getting royally hacked off with the parking sensors engaging in traffic jams as the constant noise & interruption of music etc. is driving me nuts. Can't see a way to turn it off in traffic as each time i do it re-engages the next time i come to a standstill. Paul

Sounds like they put Mercedes parking sensor system in, hate it the bloody constant going off in traffic (especially in Nigeria where the Okadas, zip through traffic like maniacs). I hope you do find the off setting for that !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Think I've worked out why the ****beeping beepers keep going off when I'm in traffic.

"The parking aid system is automatically activated when Reverse (R) or Neutral (N) gear is selected."

If I'm stationary & in a queue of traffic I will often go into neutral gear. From the manual's extract above this seems to be a trigger to switch the parking aid on. Note that this is different to all the JLR cars I've had previously so will just need to get used to this. 2016 SDV8 AB

Ah yes my car does the same!
As I told you this is to do with parking, it makes sense, it is just protecting you in a parking manoeuvre type situation so you do not run into anything.
By putting the car in neutral it is protecting you to make sure you do not roll into anything.
Good to know you sorted it out.
