px - offer to forum members?

Hi Guys, with the recent thread about px values, it got me thinking, most of the members cars on here are probably good examples, which other members would be happy to own.

There are always members looking to buy, or who would upgrade if the right opportunity came along. It seems a shame if people are 'chopping in' good cars at trade value with main dealers, possibly then to get purchased by another member with the dealers margin added! (No offence to any dealers).

It would be good if people posted what they've been offered by dealers as px, and allow forum members to match the px price. I'm sure most dealers might then give an improved price for no px! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I offered my Td6 on here in September/October. 19k, when dealers were selling them at 22k. In the end it went to the dealer...
Full history, reliable, well looked after and sensible milage. Not a sniff from anyone actually interested.

Even my current one, I'd probably sell if I was offered 38k, but people seem to prefer buying from dealers when spending big money for the peace of mind it brings. Either that or they need finance, which is a little harder when buying privately.

members who do purchase another RR do normally post in the 'for sale' section but most who have one tend to keep it for a while.... ... - .- -.

From a dealers perspective (certainly us), most of the time a part-exchange only forms part of the payment therefore if a customer accepts a PX price from us then they are welcome to sell privately. We wouldn't offer any additional discount though if a PX.

For the majority, I believe that it is less hassle to drive into the dealership in the old car and drive out in the new one, with the only concern being to swap the insurance over at the correct time. This avoids having to be without a car for a period of time if you sell it early or having to 'bank roll' the idea and insure two cars at the same time until it is sold.

What may be a good idea is to post the vehicle details and PX price between ordering the car and collecting the new one in case a forum member offers enough over and above the PX price to make it worth their while. i.e. I've ordered a new RR and the dealer has offered me £18,000 for XXX, therefore if someone were to buy it by next Thursday for £19,000 then they can have it. I can guarantee however that most people would be tempted to put a little on top of what the dealer has really offered which would then mean that it would be a For Sale post.

Just my opinion............

James Thumbs Up

PS I would imagine that Gaz would love to have first dibs on any RR's destined to be part-exchanged (just a thought).
