rear wiper.....problems!

Hi all,

Have an issue with the rear wash and rear wiper function in our 03 vogue. It was working fine up unitll yesterday, drove down the road turned rear wiper on to clear rain and it went 3/4 way across the screen and stopped. Now there is no response from the switch for the wash or wipe function at the rear- front all working as normal. I have checked the fuses all fine, removed the rear trim and checked for power..now there is pwoer to the middle wire on the connector and ground all ok, the third switched power is not getting anything at any point. Im thinking the switch is at fault- can anyone confirm my thoughts? any other test prior to ordering a replacement switch?

Re-Visit pulling the fuse and re-inserting. Try it with the ign on and the switch on and with the switch off.

This happend on mine in the snow. As luck would have it it's done it again today.

Basically the motor times out and then freezes to prevent burning out. My car was a bit slow turning over this morning and I'd left the rear wiper on, so I think it tried to sweep at the same time I cranked and the voltage dropped and kicked the motor into protect mode...

right. I had a go at pulling the fuse with various combinations- ignition one, off, wiper switch set on /off etc. has nt made a difference sadly. Im edging towards replacing the wiper stalk/switch- does anyone know how easy it is to access this- cowl off under the wheel or air bag/wheel off etc? the stalk is about £50.

Take the trim off first to the wiper, is the tube running through the arm forms a leak the motors get soaked and sieze up. If there is water in the trim then this may suggest this is the problem, or eliminate it at least.

Mainly leaks due to frost craking the pipework when not enough antifreeze / screen wash so quite feasible given recent weather.. then again I didn't note your location before hitting reply. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

my rear wiper worked perfectly well until coming back last week from Austria. It then just hung down at the 6 O'clock position. I followed RRUk's excellent photo instructions and removed the whole rear wiper unit. It was simply the nut had come loose. I tightened this back up and it works fine again. However the spray mechanism does not (it hasn't worked from purchase). I took the opportunity to clean out the ridiculously basic spray mechanism in the arm and checked the water delivery through the pipes whilst unattached to the motor. Despite sucking and blowing no water came out. could it be a b*ggered non-return valve? also, couldn't find where the pipe went from the front tank. only one pipe came out and went to the front sprayers only. Anyone know where the rear water pipe goes from and to? (can't get RAVE to work at the mo as on a mac - don't got there Dan!! Razz )
