3.6 V8 Smelly diesel exhaust, which cat to change?

the diesel exhaust from my 2007 tdi V8 is quite smelly, no smoke, just bad smell. Should I replace the cats? if so, should I replace mainly the first cat, near the manifold, or the second ones, down the pipe? or both :O....

mine is a 2007 model with DPF filter.

For the rest the engine runs perfect and has over 200.000 km.

many thanks for your suggestions ! 2011 Vogue 4.4 Santorini black

Can be leak on diesel fuel injector. Leakage in gaskets there .I have problem with my Citroen Berlingo with the same symptomes. Malodorous inside in the car with the engine running.

well here the smell is coming from the exhaust pipes, luckily it does not creep into the car. But in the garage you cannot leave the engine running for more than a few seconds. And the garage is big and ventilated. Relatively new diesel cars do not have that smell, mostly old cars do, that is why I suspect it is the cats failing... 2011 Vogue 4.4 Santorini black
