I had the yellow engine check light come on today. Checked fluid levels - nothing wrong. Anything else I can do to clear it or is it a trip to the dealer. |

A check engine light suggests a problem with your engine management system, often relating to the emission side of things.

Lambda Oxygen Sensors are a common culprit but your car is quite new for CAT damage....

Safe to drive to the dealer? It came on when I was about 5 miles from home (steady not flashing). Dealer is about 8 miles away. |

if you were closer to london i could of checke it and see what code came up, i ran low on petrol once just about rolled into the station, spluttering and my engine light came one. but after a day it went off, the next my scanner turned up..but no codes stored.. Nothing drastic. Some fault that required new software to be downloaded. £100 and an hour of my time.

did you ask what software was upgraded, i find it hard to believe just because there is a software update for said module and that they want to charge you for it, why should your car need it..

I can perform this software upgrade on your car for a mere £75. I wont tell you what it does or anything about it. You'll just have to believe I've done it - and in reality all I've done is clear the fault code.

I am not sure of all the details. IIRC, the fault code was that one of the cylinder banks was running hotter than the other, showing a petrol mix fault. There was a service bulletin that recommended a software upgrade for the ECU that would prevent the fault from reoccurring. I took that to mean that the cylinder bank wasn't hotter, merely that the ECU had gotten confused and that a software update prevents this from happening again.
