Loud squeak!

Hi.

Over the last few weeks my 2006 3.0 Td6 has developed a loud intermittent squeak when I'm driving. It comes on for while and then goes again. The noise is not speed related - it's the same noise whether I'm doing 40, 50, 60 or 70mph BUT the squeak goes when I very gently touch the brake pedal (i.e. not applying any brake pressure), and it returns as soon as I release it.

The car had a major service last week at my usual independent specialist, and passed its MOT, but they couldn't find anything that might indicate where the noise is coming from.

So, any suggestions (apart from increasing the radio's volume), please?

Many thanks

Barry

No. The garage checked the brakes and found them to be absolutely fine. If it was the brakes the squeak would change depending on vehicle speed but this squeak remains constant no matter what the speed. It's bizarre!

Stone trapped inbetween the back plate and the disc? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Unfortunately not. The garage checked the brakes and all was well. This squeak is independent of road speed. It is, however, becoming more constant so l'll just have to wait until a fault develops and get whatever it is fixed.

Is it a constant tone, there all the time, does it stop when the vehicle is stationary, does it stop if you put it in neutral and coast, louder under breaking etc.

A constant squeal could be a bearing on the drivetrain somewhere, but again it's difficult to pin down without hearing it.

Edit... sorry just re read the OP. I reckon it's pad squeal, just touching the breaks will stop the pads resonating. Get the wheels off and get some cera Tec or other break grease on hem. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
