A new fail to start issue. Sometimes

On occasions putting key in ign and turning to pos 1.
No issues
Turn pos 2.
No issues and all dash lights light up.
No warning ding dongs.
Turn to start and nothing.
All lights still bright
No click
Just non start.
Turn key off and on a few times and it starts with no warning dings or messages.

Used to be ok for months but yesterday it failed and despite approx 36'sh off and on's failed.
Then it started and today it was 100% with no hint of non starting.
Ther are no failt codes showing up
New battery.
Googled it and had everything from starter to fuse.
Need to try this fuse '18'
Then the relay
Where is the relay situated?

Thanks in advance (busy night) Made in Scotland frae 'Girders'

I had a similar fault on an old p38 and it turned to be a corroded battery lead from the battery to starter motor the leads corrode inside the insulation I just doubled it up never had an issue again might be with a try

Update
Failed totally this eve.
Mr nice 'AA' guy appeared.
Whats happening etc
Multi meter oot
Turn key on off etc
OK, no power getting to solenoid.
Bridged it.
And it fired into life.
So, starters ok.
A few possibilities.
Relay.
Fuse.
Chaffed or broken black power wire.
Faulty ign switch. (££££)

Noo,
Need to take the rocker cover off and look.
Then if needs be,
Need to trace and find fuse/relay.

Weil done to the young AA guy as he was straight into the case, trace and eliminate. Made in Scotland frae 'Girders'

The following diagram is the key one from the workshop manual.

Given the symptoms you describe, and here are 3 key elements to check.

1. Fusible link 2 60A in passenger compartment fuse box. Given the original intermittent nature of the problem, it is very unlikely to have failed.

2. The ignition switch itself. If I had to guess, I'd say this is the most likely problem area. Some people have had success with contact cleaner / lublrication through the keyhole itself. If so, that would be a result - cheap and quick solution.

3. The immobiliser ECU. Not much you can troubleshoot with this. I think it's eliminate all other problems and replace this only as a last resort. It will need to be coded to the car.

The starter relay appears to be within the starter motor itself, so the AA diagnostics have ruled that out.

Of course related wiring fault is always a possibility, but eliminate the ingnition switch first. If it's wiring, it could be quite hard to find.

Awsome. Thank you
I have been using a screwdriver this morning.
Bought a couple of connectors to 'hot wire' it till ah trace fault.
Great info and thank you for yer time.

Only thing I aint tried is the box behind battery.

PS. Just been oot and hot wired the solenoid up to a switch in the cab.
At least that does away with screwdriver.

(Wonder how long it will stay like this? LOL)

Oiled the ign switch, no change. Made in Scotland frae 'Girders'
