Seems to be a black art to me.... I tried companies that other members posted really great renewal prices, only to find that against my details (9 yrs + no claims) those companies were very high.

I cycle between Aviva, Direct Line and Tesco and always use quidco to get around £50 cash back each time. |

My usual tactic is to spend a lot of time online with comparison sites and direct insurers sometimes playing the "job title" game to see the differences as it's all about slotting yourself into one of their "standard risk" pigeon holes. I also include getting quotes from my existing insurer this way.
