Hungary 2004 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Buckingham Blue
Key is not turning ignition P1621

Hello,

I have a frustrating problem now for three weeks the car is standing...
Car is '04 RR 4.4 Autobiography.

I bought a replacement key because I only had one.

Here is what I did (the professional locksmith said)

1. Disconnected the battery
2. Take out the EWS box
3. Locksmith guy cut and programmed the new key
4. EWS box back to the car
5. Battery connected

Result: Key is not turning ignition anymore. Neither the new nor the original key.

I started turning the key multiple times very fast and somehow I managed to tun the key to position II.
I take my chance and connected a diagnostic tool and read trouble codes.

Here is what I found:

Description: P1621 communications with the security module has not happened within the expected time. Drive Cycle A.
State: Last occurrence - signal fault

Can anyone help me how to solve this annoying problem?

Same issue (sort of) I bought a new spare key at the cost of £170 from RR, as i was down to one working fob. On inserting the key to program it, it became stuck in the barrel! Carefully with my heart sinking, I managed to remove it... thinking it was because it was new, I had a locksmith 'wear' it down some. No use... it went in and out but would not turn.

After a helpful session with Steve at Guy Salmon, Knutsford, we came to the conclusion that the the barrel is worn-collapsing.

Fortunately the barrel itself is replaceable, without having to replace the complete ignition switch.
That is the next stage and I'll let you know how I get on and what the total bill was! Big Cry

Cheers
