Can anybody advise the best engine oil and spec for my 2002 4.4 BMW v8 petrol l322

0w40 Is what i have always used. but is alot more expensive.

anything that can get oil to the vanos units as quick as possible on startup is a good thing.

Google "Opie Oils" and put your Reg No in - they give a good selection. Put Magnatec in mine.

I guess it depends on where you live, e.g., temperature range.

The workshop manual doesn't recommend anything lower than 5W for temps down to -30 deg C.

I use Penrite HPR5 5W-40 full synthetic (oil is cheaper than an engine rebuild) but my ambient temps might be warmer than yours (it's autumn and will hit a comfortable 28 deg C today and it rarely gets below 1 deg C mid-winter). Ron B. VK2OTC

the zero grade is perfect for low temperture start, but i would prefer 30 for high temperature viscosity..
if you want to have a very fluid oil at cold t° or high 40 is not the best..
go for a 0w30 if you want 0, or a 5w30  Current: L322 TDV8 4.4

My engine has done 153000 miles would a different grade be beneficial other than what's been recommended

Its all up to you Personally i use the 0w-40 as said above... 0w Fast to vanos units when cold and as the engine runs hotter then most cars i like to have the 40 when hot.

but any the below will be fine... depends on how much you want to spend on oil.. i always change between 7-8k

5w-40

0w40

5-30

0-30
