Coolant Pump 2006 HSE AJ-V8 | |
About two months ago, I was on my way to the California desert, a trip of about 1300 miles. Sixty two miles into the trip. I started losing acceleration and I pulled on the shoulder. The temperature gauge did not show hot. I called a wrecker and was towed to a Land Rover dealer only 17 miles away. It was a Saturday afternoon and the service department closed at 4:00pm. Moreover, they did not have a Range Rover mechanic on duty. We hired an Uber to return home and continued our trip the following day, planning to be away two weeks.
On Monday, I received an email that they had found a scratch on a door and they could not proceed with any diagnosis until I acknowledged that scratch. I sent them an email that day. On Wednesday, I received a call saying that they had discovered a hose was rubbing the fan blade creating a leak. They had the hose on hand and it would be about$450. Friday, I got a call from the Service Writer and they found that the water pump needs replacing. I agree to pay $750. On the Friday, before my return, I get another call, saying that they need authorization to replace the Head Gasket. I told them to simply park the car and I would be there the next week.
When I returned the next week, I talked to the Service Writer and Service Manager. They had conducted no test to verify a head gasket problem. The technician had said that it was burping and overflowing coolant. I paid the bill and had the vehicle towed to my house, 62 miles and a ferry crossing. I had a P38 (Bosch) on which I did a Head Gasket and numerous other major jobs. Afrter a couple of weeks, I finally decided to go to my garage and see what I could see.
I bought a limited TOPix membership and first tried the bleeding procedure. It seems as though the coolant has a blockage. My next step is to pull the coolant pump.
