Temperamental electronic handbrake

After two years of mainly trouble free motoring the handbrake has started playing up. It occasionally refuses to disengage and I booked it in with the local dealers who couldn't see it for a month as they were fully booked.

Anyhow, up to now I have been releasing the brake with the emergency pull under the cup holder. It refused to work today and even the AA were stumped. It showed a number of fault codes but he couldn't over-ride to free it up. After waiting several hours for a tow truck, when I turned the engine on, no warning lights and the brake worked fine.. Typical! But it's going in for the work now under warranty so it's good to jump the queue.

However, what did concern me was the AA patrol who suggested that I leave the key under the wheel arch (on the suspension strut) for the towing guy to load the car so I could get get away. I don't think the insurance company would have been impressed if it had been taken from the public car park where it was stranded.

I stayed put and they sent another patrol to wait with my car until the truck arrived so I could get home by taxi. 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

The emergency pull under the cup-holder should be the handle to release the gearbox from park. The EPB release cable is behind the right rear quarter panel cover near the fuel filler pipe.
