Boot opening itself fault

Hi, I have a 2002 4.4 V8 Petrol Range Rover. Ever since I have owned it, the boot keeps opening itself. Some of you may know from my diary that my Range Rover is off the road at the moment as the MOT has expired and I have 2 other cars that are crying out for more urgent attention at the moment.

Anyway back on topic, I got in it today, it is insured and taxed, I started it up, the battery was slightly drained but the car started after a few slow chugs, and I noticed that the panel that has the parking sensor and boot opening buttons on it had the lights on some of the switches properly fast flickering and flashing, and while this was going on, my upper tailgate popped itself open.

I had assumed that maybe the fault lay with a faulty wiring loom or maybe a faulty microswitch, but I am now wondering if the unit in the dash might be the problem.

The lights stopped flickering in the panel after about a minute.

Could this be what is causing my bootlid to pop open?

I also found in December when I went shopping, we were loading the boot with our shopping and the upper tailgate was constantly making the electronic release noise that makes it release to open.

Although my car is off the road, every time I get stressed or depressed, I turn to it and start trying to find stuff I can fix.

All advice and help gratefully received.

I had this and it was dirt on the tail gate locking mechanism, cleaned and lubed it and all good.

Tried cleaning out the lock mechanism and it hasn't solved the problem. I am thinking it may be a dodgy wire in the loom.
