Deployable sidesteps & extended warranty

Hi, sorry, done a search, couldn't find anything!

My 2011 RR AB is in the main dealer at the moment having some warranty work done under the LR extended warranty scheme. I have just been told it is going to cost a small fortune for new motors and brackets for the side steps as they are not covered under the LR warranty.
Does anyone have any experiences fo trying to get these fixed under warranty?

Apparently the dealer reckons he can't get them done under warranty because no L322 vehicles were built in the factory with deployable side steps. They were added by the dealer before being registered new.
As such LR can't be responsible for their operation.

Sounds like I am being fobbed off, but wanted to check with the experienced members here.

Cheers

then it looks like you will have to pay......or take them off and have after market fixed steps fitted..

edit, depending on how much they want to charge you, you could get a brand new deployable steps [£350-£400] on ebay and fit the new steps onto yours.. ... - .- -.

If the dealer is suggesting more than £400 then its probably cheaper to buy a set as Stan suggests. There i go agreeing with Stan again - I'm such a kiss ass. Geoff

Buy just the steps from the parts department, you won't need the wiring, and afaik it will not be more than £300.

It's DIY 8 bolts each side and the electrical plug! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I was also told that the deplorable steps were not covered by the extended LR warranty as they were a dealer fit option only, even though they were fitted from new.

At the time I was quoted about £1,200 for the parts alone without labour to remove & refit, so I persevered with a sticking step for a long while and ended up taking them off, which is just 8 bolts and an electric plug. I have been tempted to buy a set at the reduced sell off price of £400, but am enjoying my car without steps at the mo.

Just noticed iPhone spell correct above, but it seems quite apt Wink

Ended up just getting the dealer to sort it. I know it's expensive but decided to sell the car so need them working for that!

Cheers for all the help.
