Drive Modes & Ride Heights??

This may seem like an odd question, but i'm confident my Dealer won't give me a sensible or correct answer if asked so though i'd check on here.

The question relates to drive modes & ride height etc.

I'm collecting my MY17 next week & would like to understand better the different drive modes available & also how the suspension works in varying conditions. Worth noting i've chosen the TDV6 AB, so it doesn't have Dynamic drive.

As i understand it, the drive modes are sand, snow, mud & gravel etc. however you can select Auto & the car will work out what surface it's being driven on so really no need to interact with this function, is this correct?

Next the suspension, i assume the car will adapt it's ride height based on the above automatically, but given mine will spend the majority of it's time on the motorway it will stay in some standard ride height relative to on road?

Lastly, under what scenario will the car lower it's ride height & if this doesn't happen automatically, how do i drop it to get easier in/out access & easier entry into my garage?

Thanks in advance & apologies if these appear very basic questions.

Traction control / drive mode is independent of ride height - both can be changed independently

99% of the time you're likely to leave both on auto

I lower mine for going on the EuroTunnel & I've used snow mode a couple of times.

It probably lowers a little at speed - but you won't notice or care. It certainly won't let you go very quickly in manually raised or lowered mode.

Mine has a button to press so that it lowers when you park, but I recall reading that there is an auto setting on later cars.

To get into your garage, you'd probably press the manual lower button on the centre console - that's the same as I do for the tunnel Thumbs Up

To change out of auto mode you press the terrain selector down - it pops up then you can dial to whatever you like - push down again for auto.

You can see the height selector below that Thumbs Up

Not sure if you still get a 1/2 day LandRover Experience when you buy a car from a main dealer - if so, book a FFRR and those guys know their stuff - that's the place to find out what everything really does Thumbs Up

L405s and L494s don't have a lower high speed height.

Which is a shame as the L322 lowered at motorway speeds which imo was a good thing.

MY07-12 all lower at a sustained 100 mph unless fitted with a kit such as mine to allow lowering or raising at any speed.

I am not convinced that the auto terrain response is as effective as choosing manually based on quite a bit of off road driving.

Thanks all.

As i'll be mainly on road, i doubt other than say in the Winter when the Snow mode may be useful occasionally my car will spend all its time in Auto, i was just curious as to how clever the on board computers were at selecting the right mode for conditions & also how best to set the car up (ride height) to park it in my garage as well as entering/exiting the vehicle as i chose not to opt for the side steps.

2017 cars can be programmed to go to access mode automatically when they are put into 'park' via the screen. Your dealer should be able to confirm, or you can google the RR brochure searching for access mode/Auto access mode, or of course just read the handbook when you get it. I was told this would be standard, so maybe one would have to programme it off if it was not wanted. I personally would prefer to avoid the extra work for the air suspension compressor etc and any risk of it lowering on to dry vegetation off road, but you or your passengers may prefer the auto lowering.

I have read on here that in cold weather the auto terrain response can go to the much gentler take-off of "grass gravel snow" even though the road is dry and there is no traction problem, selecting manually avoids this. Only Range Rovers since 1988
