My experience of being in the market to buy approved used L322 was that MD's would not be too interested in reducing screen prices. A couple of hundred pounds maybe and the nice ones tended to fly off the shelves anyway.

Is that generally also the case with the L405?

Mine did - a few thousand - I narrowed my search down to 3 on the used LR site, then called around explained where I was at & played them off a bit. I was also trading in so it was a difference to change price.

I didn't get anything off the sticker price but did get a few bits and pieces thrown in, my new private plates made up, a tank of fuel and don't forget the dealers contribution to credit that can be paid off immediately without penalty.

I'm also sure that if you offer them something close to sticker price and say that you'll buy it at that price immediately that you will usually do OK.

With any negotiation, the first thing to do is establish that you're committed - I made sure the car was available & I could do the deal by a certain date. I told them I was considering others & my expectation was that I would describe my trade in car & send photos, then expected to turn up - and assuming that both cars as described - do the paperwork & drive away.

I'd already done my test drive & worked out what spec I wanted etc - and with a main dealer warranty, pretty much anything can be resolved later by your local dealer.

Mine was a 500 mile round trip - but I left early, was there when they opened and was home again by early afternoon - so not a huge hardship and worth it for the right car at the right price

Sometimes they will offer a lower price if you take out a credit plan.

If you don't want the credit - you can cancel the agreement within something like 14 days & pay off the full amount without credit charges.

I agree. In my experience if they know you are serious when you walk in you are more likely to get a deal.

So if you do take the credit deal and pay it off do you then lose out if they have covered it elsewhere?

We got our current RR after viewing it then being told it had been 'sold' to someone else... Who then got declined on credit or whatever it was.

No, because as soon as you've bought the car and left the dealer your contract is with the finance company. The dealer has his money for the car up front.

AFAIK the dealer is not allowed to link anything to a finance deal so he can't remove anything from the deal later on (e.g if he's thrown in a "free" service).
