Ibus BMW NBT iDrive infotainment retrofit

Has anyone looked into or done an Ibus NBT infotainment upgrade? I just came across this recently and thought it would be a nice retrofit. Before you say "save your money and just buy a newer Range Rover", i am just curious about this retrofit. Considering my family has a new X5, I love the infotainment system in the car. But I prefer everything else about the Range Rover.

Here is a kit by Germaniks:
http://www.germaniks.com/bmw-nbt-retrofit/...46-e53-rr/

It is the full infotainment system with a 10" screen and includes an Ibus module to allow the steering wheel controls and also control the trip computer as well. They also sell just the module and harness if you have access to a NBT module, screen and Idrive controller. It is pricey as a full kit, but if one sells all the old parts, it would lower the costs.

I am just seeing if anyone else has done this and get they're thoughts about the system.

Dare I say it I prefer nbt to the final infotainment system available in the l322 but each to their own .... £1500 is a bit steep though although that's one hell of a screen!

Right this got cheaper and I've taken the plunge - I've just won one eBay a nbt system from an f10 with 10.2 screen dab, touch controller for a tad under £500...

The reason for the plunge? Easy I've had two nav drives now and they are all old and falling apart freezing etc... I've had new lasers but still they arent like they were.

Also bimmerretrofit are doing the harness for £299 at the current exchange rate plus taxes so ~£350... all I need is the long lvds cable ~£30 from china and to modify the bezel or if I struggles but one.

So all that comes in st under £900...

My car had a new bm54 In 2014 dated 2014, should pickup £200, new screen in 2013 dates 2013 should pickup close to £200, Bluetooth gen 11 ~£100 mk4 nav drove
As it is ~£120 - tv unit analog ? Probably not much either way that part out totals around £620 which means if tjis all works the cost to me will only be £280 which is be very happy with...

Im looking forward to this. Plenty of pictures please. The only thing about this conversion that scares me is coding the NBT to the car VIN.
Keep us posted on how you get on. No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

The net system has arrived - I got one from an f10 with the touch controller. Now its arrived I think I will cut out the top black bit of the console to the passenger side of the handbrake to house the controller. Im looking on eBay for a spare first in case it goes wrong.

Bezelwise for the screen - unlike the e38/39/46/53 it doesn't need to be as tall as 10mm is hidden top and bottom which therefore mean I *may* be able to trim the f10 bezel to fit... that should look nicer then!

Everything is on hold at the moment though as I am leaning toward the more expensive bmwplanetdude kit as I ave read a few bimmerretrofit horror stories but th kit is an extra £200 and take 2 weeks for him to make.

Advantage of his of BR is that it has the reverse guidance but it does put the cost a bit higher.

Just seeing the screen lined up made me grin Very Happy

Looking good. I thought the bit direct infront of the centre consul cubby where the cup holder goes would be a good place, but yours is looking good. Keep the pictures coming. No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue

Another teaser below.

Just an update - have been on holiday for a week and looking after my 8 month old and still working obviously so this is really going in and around all those things.

So three weeks ago I started this and followed various e39 diys and added my own flair. I ran the cables back to fron and I neded a can cable to go between emulator and kombi. I used cat5e cable. Just a tip: don't do that! the resistance was wrong and I could not get it to connect until today when I ran proper can cable (doh!)

Also my biggest problem, I was convinced the unit was in transport mode or dead, 3 weeks ago when it was all in I fired it up and... nothing. took me 100quid at someone who fits these in bmws professionally so we could swap bits over to find that the special cable designed for this retrofit from china (unfortunaelty the only one) was pinned wrong! Argh.

So now pinned correctly and wired correctly I am nearly there.

I had a problem with the latest bimmer retrofit firmware and was ready to slate them as I have read a lot o f negative feedback but to be fair they emailed me a different firmware which is so far working.

The big problem with this enbt emulator is that it needs activating - others like the carsystems one (albeit more pricey) do not.

I am struggling with this and in contact with BR still. I will let you know which unit id recommend if and when they get this sorted (if promptly probably this one).

Once activated it should all work with a bit of luck! I will then write a diy of some description. In the meantime get on ebay and keep an eye out for nbt systems out of an f10!

I've been looking into this upgrade for a year. I'm so glad smeone decided to do it. I look forward to the write up and all the parts needed for a successful retrofit.

Thank you.
