Your engine was originally developed by Ford.

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black

BMW Era:
M57 3.0 Td6 (02-06)
M62 4.4V8 (02-05)

Jaguar Era
4.4 petrol V8 (06-08 ish in the uk)
4.2 petrol S/C V8 (06-09)

Ford/Jaguar
3.6 TDV8 (07-10)
4.4TDV8 (10-12)
5.0 S/C V8 (10-12)

It gets a little tricky with the 4.4's (as there are 3) and its not obvious unless looking under the bonnet which is which, however the only 3.6 was the Ford 3.6 TDV8 so its fairly clear cut for you 2005 E60 M5

Although the 3.6 is thought of as a Ford engine it's actually a little known species of antarctic penguin pretending to be an engine in order to escape predatory sealions.

Proof - ever seen sealion's hunting penguins under Range Rover bonnets?

It's a very good strategy by the penguin.

True story.

.....maybe.

My mind does work like that, but I will confess it has been affected by alcohol this evening (the mrs is away!).

One way to look at it, but Ford bought Jaguar in 1989 and then bought Landrover in 2000 - JLR was formed in 2008 when Ford sold both brands to Tata

Either way, the 3.6L TDV8 was a Ford & PSA engine - PSA = Peugeot Citroen
It was an evolution of the older 2.7L
