Hi all,
Had a phone cal from the parents a week or so ago whilst I was away, to say they're tried using the FF and the key wouldn't come out without a rear struggle. It had been working fine last time I used the car. Anyway, apparently they took it to our trusted local garage who "sorted it" - they had to phone Land Rover who told them it's something to do with a cable under the gear lever.
Fast forward to today, and the key will not come out at all when I parked up at my workshop this morning. No matter how many times I twist it between ignition on and fully off, it won't go to the fully off position and so will not come out. Come hometime a few hours later, the gear selector would not move out of park! Great, so I now have a completely immobile car.
Luckily, after 5 minutes of trying the gear lever finally moved out of park so I could at least drive home. However, the problem with the key barrel persists. Would I be right in thinking the two issues are related? Presumably its an interlock that stops you taking the key out unless the car is in park?
I had wondered if this was the infamous issue with the steering column that requires drilling into it to fix, but this seems different from the usual symptoms?
As it has to go back to the garage on Monday, can anyone please offer any hints or advice on how to fix it properly this time? Obviously whatever they did last time has't worked (or at least, stopped working again after they tested it and dropped the car back off). NW060
