According to AutoPlus, a French weekly motoring magazine, the most nicked car in France in 2016 was the E-wok, with 196 stolen per 10,000 insured, with the “Range Rover / Range Rover Sport” not far behind, in 4th position (156 / 10,000)!

The reason given for the high LR representation is the ease with which thieves can get in and programme a ‘key’ in less than a minute using a box of electronic tricks costing a couple of thousand Euros, plus the fact that these – and other premium models – can easily be sold on.

I don't know about the Evoque but the FFRR has a deadlocking system on the second press (in my case); how are they getting around that?

Having done a bit of searching, I see that RR thefts have been discussed quite a lot here. See for example http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic32310.html

Interestingly, in this thread http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic25743.html, it seems the thieves got inside the car by smashing a rear door window. Once inside, they were able to programme a new key.

I really don't know but that must be one way of getting round the deadlocking. I’m sure others can provide more info …

I think the weakness for access is keyless entry.

If a car is parked on a drive with the keys indoors but near, I think the thieves can use a device to amplify the signals between the car and the key so the car thinks the key is close by and allows entry.

The latest models don't allow a new key to then be created from the OBD port and my MY2106 has had an update to achieve his.

Not sure how many earlier LR vehicles are being similarly updated

That's why I am a little confused.

The keyless entry on mine is turned off so the button needs to be pressed to open. The keyless start is active. Why would the key and car communicate with the keyless entry turned off? Or am I being naive?

And once the car is deadlocked, the volumetric alarm is active so breaking a window should set it off....?

I think I am more confused now, seeing as the key fob needs pushing to unlock from single or double lock.

So I keep my keys in a faraday cage (aka a key safe) to prevent thieves gaining access even though they can no longer use the OBD port to create a key.

Iirc the L322's don't suffer as much with this as much as newer 405's do sue to the keyless setup which is then used in the sport and epoke. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
