[Wanted] L322 dash cup holder for spare parts.

Has anyone got a dashboard cup holder from an L322, with a broken return spring, that they would like to sell to me for spare parts?

My return spring works fine but the parts that support the bottom of the cup have been dislodged and I have lost two of the spring loaded pins.

Thanks,

Glen.

Sorry to trash your thread.

Took mine apart today as the top flap of plastic that helps to hold the bottom of the holder in place when open isn't connected. The spring and everything is there.

When you say spring loaded pins, is that the ones? About 2mm x 9mm? I was going to buy some little pins and fit them hoping it works!

Yes, that's the ones. There are 4 in total. I think that they need to be sprung to allow the parts that support the cup to be slipped in between the outer parts.

Reminded me of the weekend just gone wilst out shopping with the missus when she pressed the dash cup holder which slid out perfectly from its housing only to place her can of lemon Sanpellegrino (very sticky) into the cup holder which slid straight through and ended up spilling out into the passenger footwell Rolling Eyes

Hey guys
What a coincidence!!!!!!
Have lived with mine broken since I brought car! For that exact same reason, 3 of the pins missing from the bottom cup holder flap.

Had searched but the unit (even second hand costs) £60+
Yesterday I was bored for an hour so took a look at it. I know this sounds cranky but it genuinely works so go with me. .
If you buy the silver pins "spring bars" that hold watch straps on off eBay, I got 100 delivered for £1.50 so lots here if you want some posted. And then 4 cheap biro pens. Not Bic ones as they are tapered and not just a straight nib, but cheap ones that have the longer (5mm) straight nib. Best way I can describe is the small betting shop ones.

Snap the metal spring bar pins in half and they have a small spring inside.
Pull the nib off the biros and they have a hole in that the spring fits in. (Bit inky so need to wash them)

These fit perfect in the holes where your missing pins were and clip back into the holes in the unit 100%!!

I now have a working cup holder!!!! Is that a stroke of genius or just to much time on my hands?

Looks like I'm doing my mates one when back at work next Weds so if stuck and you want some made (providing I find enough pens to steal!) i can proberly send you some? Or at least send you some pictures as I do it?

Good luck.

Too much time on your hands Wink

Genius idea though I will give it a go!

I don't really understand what the spring does?! How does the pin stay in the hole?!

Cheers

Haha

Yeah the body of the cup holder has 4 holes in it. The pins in the flappy bit have springs behind them so the pins are constantly pushed out and lock into the holes. Then it can pivot on the pins. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!
