4.4tdv8 using oil

i have had the vehicle since beg Oct 16, with 38k miles on it, now on 41k miles.

Its using approx 1/2L oil for 500miles

thoughts on where its going?

no evident oil leaks in or around engine bay. Cheers

Well sounds like a lot! -

Before you give yourself a heart attack - check it again (now) and then follow the same proceudre in another 500 miles.

Check it in the same place (even slight slopes make a difference on some cars) and the same time after turning off Check the handbook as it will probably let you know how long - again some cars have a different set up )

I had a Honda Civic a coupel of years ago and the level seemed to change up and down the dipstick dependant on where I checked and if i checked when cold or warm.

Cheers

Simon

Check for signs of oil underneath, have the under tray off and check the connector on the bottom of the sump.

Check the plumbing at the rear of the engine where the o rings fail for leaks

Check round the turbos
Also have a look at the state of your coolant, and the water/oil cooler in the V for leaks, see MJdronfields post re the cooler issues, bit of a common problem but you would tend to notice the coolant turning into brown liquid.
Then make sure that the car is warm flat and level when checking the oil. Preferably in the same place each time.

Mine used a bit of oil, but only about a litre every 5k. Which I'm now monitoring as I've had a few leaks plugged! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

cheers Guys

yes, level is checked in same place each time and as you describe.

coolant is correct level and colour - which is promising.

plumbing on rear of engine, is that accessed from top or bottom? Cheers

James
