First thing is to get it checked with diagnostics, you can get live info from it to see if it is working, changing it means removing the upper steering column from the joint just the engine side of the bulkhead, you then remove the lower part of the column and change the sensor, it's like a donut and encircles the column, it's a bit of a faf to do and it helps if you have someone to help getting it back on, pushing the column from inside the car and lining it up from under the bonnet is a bit difficult on your own.... Download Rave from the WIKI it tells all... If some has been there before and rounded off a bolt your dash will end up looking like this.... You should be able to do it by just removing the black plastic panel above the pedals and use a long extension with a wobbly on it...

Dont' be put off by the picture, you don't have to remove a single dash component. You need a tool like the Gap to re set (calibrate or re set from memory) the new one though before it will work

Also could be one of the ABS sensors. Changing Steering agle sensor is 30 minutes under the bonnet, perhaps at the steering sensor you have only to Change the black ring..., so you have not to learn it.
