Diesel or LPG L322??

Evening all.

I'm personally new to the RR scene, but always been around them as my dad has owned quite a few over the years.
I'm currently looking to buy an earlier L322, mainly due to budget and road tax costs.
I only do about 5,000 miles a year, most of which are shorter local journeys. So, would I be better off with a TD6 or LPG V8 petrol??

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm getting a early V8 delivered this weekend (fingers crossed!) . I had one a few years back and loved it. Friend of mine had the td6 and it sounded no where near as good as my V8. For 5k miles a year I know what I'd go for

If you only do 5000 miles /year am not sure why you need lpg.With that sort of mileage you are not going to save much even with a diesel over the Petrol.With diesels being more to maintain and sounding like an old tractor compared to the petrol it is a no brainer to me !

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking along the same lines, and prefer the noise of the V8, just wanted to pick the brains of people who have owned them. I've come across a few V8's that I like now, so my next question is are there any common issues to look out for?

If u can find a jag 4.4 (2005-6) then get one! They are better than the BMW in non-lpg form. The only thing I can think of is gaskets, transfer and gearbox oil changes, PCV hoses (x4 including the at the rear), water pump, radiator and oil cooler.

Diesels hate short, stop / start trips so with that mileage........V8 all day long. Thumbs Up

I wouldn't bother with LPG either, you're just not going to notice much difference on those miles. Can you even get LPG now? The fuel stations here have all but dropped it. I had an LPG many moons ago on a P38 and remember having to travel 18 miles to the nearest LPG station which defeated the idea somewhat! 2006 4.2 SC

I've got a 2004 V8 with the latest Prins sequential LPG conversion and paid a small premium over a non-converted L322.

I've got a receipt for the conversion which was in the region of £2.0k, and it still has 14 months warranty for the LPG side. Now, it's registered as bi-fuel with DVLA which reduces 'road tax' by a couple of hundred quid. Vehicle returns about 18mpg on petrol on 150 mile run (30 miles A and B roads, 120 miles motorway) - about 14-15mpg on LPG (which is about right).

As someone else has said, Autogas (LPG) availability is getting scarce, BP have pulled from the market. I'm lucky as I have 2 Shell stations very near me who currently charge 56.9p a litre for LPG. Problem is many cars manufactured in the last few years do not convert well (valve seat regression etc.).

My advice is do the maths, if there is an Autogas station near you, then simply get a quote for a GOOD conversion and then work out the amount of time it will take wth your estimated annual mileage to (1) break even, and (2) go into profit. Possibly the best option is to do as I did and find a good one already converted.

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I'm also new here, and have a 53 plate 4.4 v8 running lpg.
I would never go back to diesel now!
I get similar mileage to Class_5, maybe 17-18 mpg on a good run.
I have a couple of Morrisons nearby who sell lpg, currently at 52.9p a litre.

Lpg all the way. Have had a few and still have, ride, sound, smell and conscious? Knowing that you drive clean. I can drive in Paris every day with my lpg car. On a bad day no diesels are allowed on the road. I have a "vignet 1" so a environmental friendly car. More cities in France are banning diesel and big engined petrol cars. I have an ajv8 on lpg, drives great 90 k miles now. Thumbs Up
