2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

Engine bay noise

Just a quick post but I've just noticed everytime I put the key in the ignition( not starting car) I'm getting a high pitch whine from what sounds like the area behind the front grill? Cannot pinpoint it but it's the first time Ive noticed tbh.. nothing's running on car and I'm wondering if it's something electrical.. going to have a good poke about at the weekend just wondering if anybody else has this on the petrol v8?

sounds normal, unless the noise is very loud..

It's not overly loud. Never noticed it before so it kind of threw me.

Could be the cooling fan insidd the ecu box.

Seems to have gotten louder.. it only starts when the keys in position 2? Sounds like its coming from the front of the engine? No errors being read by iid (yet

Have you listened next to the big black box at the left hand side of the engine bay looking from the front as these fans can fail?
Do you have your heater turned off as there is a coolant pump on the nearside inner wing next to the heater valve?
maybe the aircon condenser fan is having a funny turn..

Hi mate. All quiet in the ecu box and heatings off.! It sounds like it's coming from within the engine, possibly the throttle body? Shall get a better look/listen in the daylight..

Found a few of these on BMW forums relating to the throttle body as well.. will check it out after work..sounds similar..

I was correct .. unplugged this and noise stopped..I can hear what sounds like the throttle body opening and this annoying whine which has gotten louder..my idle under 1000rpm is still slightly unstable, I wonder if it's linked??

If you have rough idle it could be many things as well s the throttle body, MAF, air leak, coils , plugs, o2 sensor maybe, diagnostics would hopefully point you in the right direction.
My faultmate can tell me which cylinders are running rough if any which you may get on other diagnostics as well as air leakage and all sorts of other things that i don't really understand

That's the thread I've been reading at least with the m62 you have the option of posting on both land rover and BMW forums to trouble shoot lol..I've got new plugs to fit shortly then will check the coil packs at the same time.. maf and o2 readings are within range so hopefully nail it shortly... it still pulls like a train and drives great so not the end of the world.. cheers for input buddy..

yep definitely useful sharing the mechanicals with the Bimmer crowd, they are even more nuts than RR owners (maybe) and dhon't shy away from getting the spanners out
