09 tdv8 wont start

Hi guys......

searched forums but couldnt find anything like this, so here goes.......

Drove caar this evening, everything fine and working as it should. Parked the car up for 90 mins, returned to car and wont start.

Initially all I was getting was no cranking. Now however.......

When i key in ignition, dash light as per normal. Turn the key to start and its like daves disco on the dash. Every light in the dash is flashing randomly, no radio, heater fan spinning and making noises as normal, but verious clicks and clunks coming from front middle and rear of car. Still no cranking.

Locked car, left for 20 mins, retried and same as before with the exception that the key didnt want to turn to cranking position. Ignition coming on and various disco lights aand sound but will not turn to crank position.

Very aware that this is going to be a diagnostic job, but just in case someone knows what it is and its easy to fix before i Censored thousands up the wall trying to find an electrical fault.

Thanks in advance 2009 Westminster. Mariana black with ivory leather.

Hard reboot would be the first thing I'd do - disconnect battery - leave for 30 mins to so - touch the lead you disconnected to the other terminal then connect back up, ensuring everything is tight - to be completely clear - one terminal has nothing touching it - do not connect anything across the terminals.

Fully charge the battery - and/or have it tested - faults like this can show up if the voltage is too low.

Thank you for the speedy reply, much appriciated.

So to be cleaar though, I will disconnect battery positive lead and leave for 30 mins. I will then touch the positive lead to the negative terminal of the battery, hold for a second then reconnect positive lead to positive terminal of battery.

Fairly certain that I read it right. 2009 Westminster. Mariana black with ivory leather.

Well guys thanks for the suggestions, but alas.....

Got a brand new battery, luckily I have a friend who is a parts manager for a rr dealership. So 100% right battery, and brand new in sealed box so I know that battery is good.

Dash disco has stopped, and car cranked on the first try, but didn't fire. Then everything went to crap again. Dash lights flashing when trying to start, only cranking maybe one in ten times without firing.

So flat bed booked, garage prepped. I'm just off to rob the local bank in anticipation of the bill.......... 2009 Westminster. Mariana black with ivory leather.

I hope the alternator hasn't ruined the new battery.

Cars back, alternator replaced and running.

only problem is mechanic notice aa slight misfire on cold start, EGR valves. (joy), and i now have a petrol guage that works 50% of the time.

Cars done 60k miles, should these sort of things be going at such low milage???

I appreciate its mechanical, so things wear out, but I am being silly thinking a car of this type, with an original price tag that it had, should be able to muster up a few more mile before these sort of things start going??

Not impressed, not impressed at all. 2009 Westminster. Mariana black with ivory leather.

Erm short answer is yes they do.

The fuel gauge will be the in tank senders failing. Which is a common problem have a search quite a few on here incl me have had to replace the senders. Not a super cheap job but not an urgent job either.

Alternator of the 3.6 is a weak spot, but once done should last another 60k before it goes again.....

The EGR valves are also prone to being a bit dickey. But can lead to turbo problems if not dealt with so that's the next thing to attend to imho.

Expensive price tag when new just means expensive fixes when things break. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

oh yeah i fully understaand that. this isnt my first 'luxury' vehicle. All I was staitng is that for a marque such as range rover, and the class of vehicle they portray to sell, I think 60k miles before things such as alternators, EGR valves and petrol senders start failing isn't in keeping with the original sale prices and entry level of the vehicle.

It just seems like a fairly low milage for these sorts of things to start going up the swanny on a vehicle such as this.

But once again, many thanks for the speedy replies and invaluable advice given to my issues, your a credit to an already great forum! Thumbs Up 2009 Westminster. Mariana black with ivory leather.
