Leather seat repair.

Hi all, after 10 years the seats (mostly the drivers) are looking a little worse for wear in my '06 FFRR and cleaning, conditioning etc. just isn't going to do it.

I've read the threads on here from those who have gone down this route, and the wiki guide but still have a few questions.

The furniture clinic seems to be a popular supplier for what's required but I'm not sure what to get.

Firstly, overall the seat is not bad, it's just the edge closest to the door, as I'm sure it's the same on all, it's just the drivers seat that I'm going to do , to be fair to previous owner(s), overall the rest of the seats are in very good condition and would appear to have been well looked after, or saw very little use, but the drives seat is a different story.

I'm not sure if the excellent guide in wiki by Bagas is what I really need, as in, I'm not sure the whole seat needs a respray, and I'm not sure a respray would be sufficient on it's own for my seat.

Apart from the obvious crack/tear/hole in the side panel, the outer most seat panel in by far the worst with very little marks etc. on the rest of the seat, but it's so badly worn I don't know if just a respray will fix it, I think it probably needs some filler so something like this might do it.

I think this kit would probably be enough to cover any other scratched that may be on the seat too.

And then on the colour match, I'm sure there's a code for the seat in the VIN which Dan may be able to get for me so hopefully they have similar, or that Landrover code in their system.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Many thanks.

if there is a tear in the side of the seat no amount of DIY filler is going to sort it, the best way to go is to find a local trimmer, they will be able to sew in a new panel or repair it properly for you and make a perfect repair. And it won't cost the earth.

Failing that keep an eye out for the correct seat base leather on eBay. They do crop up from time to time. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Our seats split the same place and could do with a new base and a spray. Range Rover quotes.....

Thanks guys.

Yes, there's a hole in the side panel so it's probably beyond repair, so will probably have to get that panel replaced, if I can find a trimmer that can get the same colour.

But it's the wear on the outside seat panel that I want to have a go at myself.

I guess I could see if I can get the side panel replaced first and then decide what I need to do next, if the side panel isn't an exact match I could use whatever I get to repaid the seat to recolour the side panel.

Shame about the tear, I had both seat Base's and both front door handles done on my old FF for £200, they looked great

I've had another thought on this.

As far as I know, and perhaps someone can confirm, both front seat covers are interchangeable, so, what about swapping over the seat bases, or covers?

My biggest problem is the hole in the side panel, but, if I swapped the covers over it wouldn't be as easily seen on the inside of the passengers seat, and I think the top would be relatively easy to restore.

Any thoughts?

Anyone actually done this?

I haven't done it. They look the same. Check if the part number is the same for front left and right. That will confirm it. ______________________________

Except I have a dirty great hole in the side of mine..... Big Cry

I'm thinking of swapping the covers over, passengers and drivers base cover, as far as I know they're interchangeable, the hole in the side shouldn't be as noticeable on the passengers side when it's next to the centre console, then just touch up the wear as you've done.

I had a 1 1/2 inch hole on my drivers seat from wear and tear and was able to use the canvas patch and filler to fix it. You then touch it up and spray the whole seat then condition it.. I would defy anybody to find the old hole now.. it can be done unless your holes bigger than that lol..

It's on the long finger for the moment, the complete job, not just the hole....... Rolling with laughter

I'm in the middle of polishing a set of 18" alloys, new polishing wheels arrived today, and my IID tool also arrived so lots of other things to play with for the time being, just not enough time to do anything to any of them, and now a friend has asked me to do a bit of work on their Defender Puma, brake pads, lights, and "something for the steering" to get it through the CVRT (MOT), so even more joy.
