Bonnet release broken!!!!

Evening all.
Big problem to come home to this evening.
I went to pop the bonnet open to get the fatty on charge for the night the there is no tenton in the bonnet pull, I've looked and the cable looks to have snapped.

Is there anyway of opening the bonnet another way??

Please

If you remove the trim which surrounds the bonnet release, you will find that there is a cable connected to the lever. At least, the cable should be connected to the lever. There is a small metal nipple at the end of the inner cable, which will have snapped off. That's why there is no tension.

The trick is to get a pair of pliers and firmly grip the end of the inner cable and pull it carefully downwards. The bonnet should release fairly easily. If there really is no sign of the inner cable, you might need to trim the outer sheath back a bit. When this has happened to me, its not been that hard. I haven't had to resort to trying to get at the bonnet catch from the front, which I think would be much harder.

Then you need to order a replacement. There appear to be 3 different part numbers listed, depending on you VIN. I'm not clear what changed.

FPF000020 for VIN to 6A999999 (appears up to end MY 2006)
FPF000010 for VIN 7A000001 to 7A262034 (appears early part of MY 2007)
FPF000040 for VIN 7A262035 onwards (appears later part of MY 2007 onward)

The cable passes through the bulkhead via a grommet and passes up near the brake master cyl. There is then a 'junction' near the edge of the engine compartment as the cable runs down towards the front of the car.

I suppose its possible that the cable may have snapped near the front, but I had two fail in exactly this way on my 2002 FFRR so think its a pretty common problem. Good news is that the replacement is not very expensive.

Hope that helps. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322
