Yes - unfortunately there is no permanent live connection on the standard single 7 pin socket - its the 'caravan' socket you need.

Unless by some miracle you have a new Euro standard 13 pin socket - like this

9 and 13 equals 3 and 4 in Alistairs link. Ensure that you have correct polarity i.e. +ve from charger to 9 and -ve from charger to 13.
PS. I read that as he had a 13 pin socket but see what you mean, Alistair. OP needs to confirm. John
