On cold mornings below (4 degrees), with the car engine cold, I take my foot off the throttle and the engine drops to tick-over speed. It feels like the car is coasting. But from playing with the paddles, I think it might well be in gear 7 @ 20 MPH. When the engine is warmed up everything is normal i.e. take foot off the gas and the engine slows the road speed down and the gears change down to match the road speed. Is this the electronics protecting a cold engine and gearbox, or is something adrift? Only had the car for seven months and twelve thousand miles and my previous auto boxes did not behave this way. I hope this is not too stupid a question.

i'm sure i read somewhere that it runs differently when cold , supposingly to prolong the engine components until they warm up..... ... - .- -.

In the D2 the auto gearbox will not lock up until up to temperature. Symptoms seem the same? Unsure whether it applies to FFRR. John

Glad to hear this appears normal. I've always thought the 8 speed box acts a bit strange until warmed up. that said in 7th at 20 it would be tick-over revs anyway?
