Checking the engine oil level when cold/filling 4.4 TDV8

As those of you with a 4.4 TDV8 will know there is only an electronic dipstick.

This is a bit daft when filling from cold as it won't let you take a reading until the car has sat for 10 mins, and gives a false reading when the engine isn't warm.

there is a way to force the system to give you a reading when the engine oil level not available message is displayed. This will help when filling so the engine isn't overfilled.

its dead easy.

Edit: open the bonnet......

Navigate to the service menu in the cluster.
press OK

select oil level check
press OK

if message not available is displayed press the cruise control cancel button twice within 2 seconds.

this will take you out of the service menu.

Navigate back to the oil level screen and you should see the current level displayed.

top up to below the max level as when warm you will get a higher reading. then start and run the engine for 10 mins and allow to stabilise for 10. check again and top up if needed.

turn ign. off

allow to stabilise for 10 mins if you topped up.

turn the ign. on, hold the cruise cancel button for more than 2 sec.

turn ign off.

turn ign on. and check oil level on the display is registering.

Not tried it yet, but just read it and thought it could be useful...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

missed the first step out, tried this on mine and it didn't work.

I think it only works if the Bonnet is open. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
