Mobiles .....again !!!

I know I've had a rent about this before, but I see the powers that be want us to report drivers we see using mobiles Shocked
How's that gonna work?
I can picture the scene now. You ring up the law, if your call gets answered, to report what you've witnessed.
You rarely get a cop come out of you've been the victim of a crime, so how long you gonna wait to get one to visit you about your report.
And when they come they're gonna be well impressed with you adding to their workload !!
Suppose you could go to the local nick, but they're usually closed !!
Then there's the individual you've grassed up, they're gonna be suitably impressed with you, especially if it goes to court !!
The problems are endless !!
Enough ranting now, it's not good for my blood pressure Banging Head

Plus you would have to go to court to give evidence, thus losing pay etc etc...

Could take a picture I suppose....

Whistle That could end up backfiring Whistle

If you take a picture of someone using a mobile phone while they are driving... you'd be also be using a mobile phone and driving Shocked That could be a get rich quick scheme thought up by some bright spark in the ministry.....

And I've got to ask What is the difference between a 2 way radio and a mobile phone? ..... from where I'm sitting they are both used to converse with another person, and both require the use of a hand........... I've seen the Police programs on the TV and think it's a bit hypercritical to prosecute a mobile phone user when an officer is flying down the road in a pursuit, leaning their head to one side and talking to their shoulder... pot kettle and black. And I'm not anti establishment, I just think it's time that the Police got hands free too........ Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Well wot's the difference?

Are we now saying that if you get a phone that only makes phone calls it would be legal........that would be a happy day if they made such a complicated thing... they could call it a phone of mobility.... want to install this, but it wont fit in the centre console

Given the general feeling of contempt towards the Police I can't see anyone actually wanting to help them. Especially when you consider how much of a ball ache you would have to go through as a witness. I know I wouldn't.

I wouldn't look at it as helping the police as such - just helping to remove dangerous drivers from the road.

It's the content that matters IMHO - taking a call isn't great, but in a queue of traffic probably OK - whereas texting is a different matter.....

Clearly you should only take a photo if you're a passenger Laughing

I still don't get it. Texting is just a daft thing to do whilst driving but:

Using a bluetooth is ok
Using a 2 way radio is ok
But taking a call on a handset is different to the point where it will get you a fine.

Censored is it. It's all distracting and takes your mind off the task at hand, but to say that using a radio is different to using a phone handset is just plain rubbish. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Alistair....What's a passenger? Don't do that cos you have to talk to them.... too busy swearing at incompetent drivers Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

And I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to work out the difference between a two way radio and a phone..... Maybe it's cos I only really use the phone to make phone calls..... if I was to spend all my life on textface things might be different...... One of the benefits of being old.. I have to agree, using any hand held device is distracting and exempting two way radios just creates a grey area. I have got to say even using Bluetooth or Sat Nav on the move as well as eating, drinking and smoking distracts from 100% focus on driving. But I am guilty here as I have the occasional slurp from a can of coke but if it stops others from balancing a cup of scalding coffee or tea on the dashboard, I'm happy to give it up.

I do remember my days as a road warrior though, looking at night for my hotel, mobile to ear, fish and chips being eaten, A-Z being looked at, steering wheel held by knees as I tried to retune Radio Caroline - happy days, glad I survived and even more relieved that I didn't't kill anyone. Geoff
