Tuning Box for 3.6 TDV8 Good or Bad

A few years ago I bought a Probitz tuning box as it had been recommended to me by a Land Rover Technician. But before I fitted it a freind said they are a bit risky so i didn't bother fitting it. Now I'm thinking about giving it a go.

I know that the preferred option is a remap but that is more expensive than the option I already have. My understanding is that tuning boxes increase the fuel pressure by manipulating sensor signals which allegedly can cause problems.

I wondering if anyone has any actual experience with issues caused by fitting a tuning box as I've been following this site and others for a few years, have friends that are Landrover Techs and never heard of any issues being caused by a Tuning Box.

One of my main concerns would be turbo or gearbox failure, not that I'd be planning to go racing.

I personally would not use a tuning box. I don't understand how it can do anything other than fool the car into pumping more fuel into the engine, which without a corresponding increase in air flow, simply results in overfuelling

Anyone got an alternative explanation? 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Had a couple they are a short cut but to contradict GraemeC MPG went up.
I have had one on my TD6 now for 4 years with no issues it dosent smoke and it's noticable when i remove it.
However a proper remap is better. Mine was a blue one! Smile

Not sure now Weegie it was about £80 I think they all work in a similar way by increasing the fuel pressure in the rail.
Had one on a Tucson that was very good got about 4 mpg more and it picked it's skirts up. Chap I ebayed it to was delighted too. It didnt cause any issues just used to pop it off for visits to the dealer.
The FF one is ok but I dont think it is as good however you do notice when you take it off. Mine was a blue one! Smile

My gearbox has failed but that seems to be standard on the TD6
in theory the gearbox can handle more power.
Had the chip fitted before and since the re build which is 40k now with no concerns Mine was a blue one! Smile

ii had a probitz on my 03 td6 and it was great, clocked 40k with it no issues at all made it go like a bullet from standstill and no lag or thinking time to pull out, made the mid range more responsive and would use again if i had one tbh, looked at a lot of suppliers before probitz and found it to be best for me Thumbs Up _____________________________________________________

Thanks Gents,

It's interesting, there seems to be no reports of any failure due to fitment.
