Back in love with my FFRR

Having initially used my RR lots more than I thought I would it had a number of issues that were spoiling my driving enjoyment. I had bought a sports car (a VX220) with which to do the bulk of my miles, especially commuting, and when that was sorted to drive I only used the RR for the bare essentials - specifically carrying big things/people, and towing.

The steering rack was on the way out and this was causing vibration at various speeds, and a clunk when turning at high speed. The suspension was reporting inactive and after a while the self leveling also. The car was taking a little longer to start when cold. There was no ventilation to the feet. After a few miles the check coolant warning bonged into action.

I've had the steering rack replaced. The arm/sensor that controls the self leveling has been replaced. It's had a new relay and pre-heaters. The ventilation's been sorted. The coolant level sensor has been replaced.

It's now driving much better, actually like the luxury car it is. I'm back in love with it.

This may sound a bit naff, but I think one tends to have a relationship with the RR.

When things are good, you just love it. When things are bad, it tests your commitment. If the bad times outweigh the good, then things get a bit rocky, and some people are pushed so far, they end up separating from their RR!

It's probably rare for most RR owners to be able to say everything is 100%, but the car is so great you'll forgive some niggles. Overall, the ups and downs probably make it a more rewarding car to own. The gremlins make you really appreciate it all the more when pretty much everything is working!

Reminds of Ferrari, a friend has a couple of 360's, and the most ridiculous and annoying little things would go wrong, like on both of them the drivers door handle (internal) stopped working. Looks a bit silly when you pull up an a £150k Ferrari and have to win down the window and do a contortionist act to get out, but he still loves Ferrari's! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

That's very true, and when I got the car I knew it would be that kind of car. It's one reason why I have two cars, so hopefully I can't fall out of love with both of them at the same time!

One thing I've decided is that when something does go wrong I'll get it repaired straight away. It will eventually get repaired, so why wait and let it anoy you?

RR is my "runabout" too ...commuter, tip run, airport run etc

fun is an Aston or Lotus for the weekend Smile

..and the best upgrade for a 2 seater sportscar, is not to drive it every day, but to get a truck for the week ...then the sportscar feels light, nimble, fast, and cheap to run again LOL Wink cheers
