Cam-Tech - gearbox megaflush and full service

Just wanted to say what the majority already know. Had my car up with Craig last Friday for a megaflush on the gearbox (including new filter) and full inspection 2 service.

Don't think it's me imagining it, but it sounds quieter and the gearbox is so much smoother.

Fantastic service by Craig & Lorna and very much recommended. Thumbs Up Current cars:

I would be interested to hear if Craig mentioned how clean/ dirty the filter was and whether he just changes it every gearbox flush.?
I am particularly interested in the 8 speed box on the 4.4 tdV8.

He didn't specifically mention how bad or not the filter was, although he did say the gearbox oil that came out was pretty rubbish. Current cars:

@ Baltic Blue

When Craig did our 4.4 TDV8 8sp at 40,000 miles last year, the oil wasn't too bad and the filter was fine i.e. no debris. I'd already asked for a filter change and it was something he recommended as part of the oil change anyway.

He did the diffs and transfer oils as well.

Whether it's just psychological, it did feel smoother afterwards, not that it felt rough before.

Thank you for the feedback Keith... Was a pleasure to meet you sir Bow down

The fluid in the gearbox was black/filthy but NOT shiny with metal particles as we have seen with some! The magnets showed the usual level of gooo! So nothing untoward Thumbs Up

Glad she feels a little “fresher” after sir Thumbs Up

The filter holes are quite large.
Haven't heard yet of dirty / clogged filter.....

I change my fluids every 30k and filter every second change.

Rambles,

Thanks for that info.
I had my gearbox oil changed last week at 70,000 miles but not the filter.
Part of me is wishing I had paid the extra and got the filter done at the same time,
I think I will have it done again when I get to 100,000 miles and get the filter done at the same time.

Would a flush be beneficial to a 2010 3.6 showing no signs of problems, it has 120k on it, only just got it, or will it cause probs and best left alone now?
The history is vague and I wanna treat her good

Views are mixed.
If it were me, I would get it done.

Just about to have my 4.4 8 speed box flushed and the mega flush guy told me to check ZFs website as they recommend every 100,000 miles and to drain the box. No mention is
made of flushing.

Think I will go the drain method and see what the oil is like. 2015 4.4 AB

Got mine done at 72.000 miles on my 4.4 TDV8, oil was dirty and of course, the filter was replaced - I am genuinely surprised some garages in the UK even consider not doing it as part of the flush!

I did not notice any difference in driving, the G box being sooooo smooth.

I did it on my 4.4L Petrol at 80.000, much older oil and I did feel the difference afterwards, also with the filter done.
